This is Bethany. Our great big two year old Bethany. The day she was born, Shad and I agreed that she had a fire in her eyes. As she got bigger and mobile, we started to realize that that fire came with something else…mischief. This girl has been and continues to be a BUSY. BODY. I kind of feel like God played a little joke on us. You see, Josh and Hannah were not like her when they were toddlers. No they weren’t perfect, yes they got into trouble. Josh was super curious and just plain busy, but it was just a curious business, not mischief. Hannah was so sweet, cute, mellow and never got into anything. But, boy did that girl have a stubborn streak. Like refusing to pick her shoes up to the point that Mom has to physically take her hand and make her pick them up and then she threw them back down on the floor screaming and proceeded to pee on the floor in protest. (She did it twice before I figured out that it was intentional.) But, for the most part, they could be trusted around the house.
But Bethany, she is a different kind of toddler. She is so funny (we call her a cheese ball, can you tell why?). Her and Josh have this thing where they give each other a “fishy.” She takes her hand and waves it across his face flopping it like a fish. She loves it when she makes us laugh. On the flip side, when I am chastising her or even spanking her, she will look me in the eye, put up her hand and say, very firmly, “Stop, Mom!” And then there is the mischief. The girl can sniff our a marker from a mile away.
I thought we had removed all the pens from the kids’ rooms, but today she found Hannah’s stationary box that had one little marker in it. The box was on top of the shelf. From what I can gather she pulled the box down from above her head, it hit her in the forehead causing a very dark purple goose egg (she never made a peep) and proceeded to do this to her self.
I was doing my work out and naively assumed she was quietly sitting in the front living room watching Doc McStuffins. When Josh and Hannah were this age, I could take a shower while they sat on the couch watching TV.
Here’s the other thing. The girl loves to take off her clothes…and her diaper. Twice this week I have found her in her crib soundly sleeping with her naked buns up in the air and her jammies and diaper laying on the floor outside of her crib. Cutest thing ever, but I am not a fan of doing pee pee laundry.
If I had a nickel for every time I look at Shad and ask, “what are we going to do with this girl?”, I would be rich!
Oh, Bethany, we love you and even your mischief.
