2 Weeks is too Long

IMG_9774
Yes, we are alive and well.  I know it has been two weeks since my last post.  Phew!  A lot has changed in the last two weeks.  In one day alone (the Friday before last) we spent the first half of the day waiting for our realtor to call to tell us we own our home and get us our keys, waited for Michelle’s husband to call and let us know how her surgery was going, and we put our beloved dog, Laney, of 10 1/2 years down.  Talk about an emotional roller coaster of a day!

By about 2 pm Shad got restless and called our mortgage guy to find out what the hold up was and he told us that as of 12:30 we were the owners of the house.  Argh!  Somehow our realtor didn’t get that call.  We had to call him and tell him that we could have the keys.  He was not pleased.  But, in the long run, it really didn’t matter.  We owned our house!

We had been talking about what to do with the dog for a couple of weeks leading up to this day.  She had slowed down so much in the last year, she wouldn’t even walk to the mailbox with us anymore.  Her back legs were clearly painful for her and they would slide out from under her occasionally on the wood floor.  And, recently, she was having piddle issues.  She wet the bed twice and twice we came home to pee smell.  I had always said that doggy incontinence was a total deal breaker when it came to owning a dog.  Easier said than done when it came down to it.  Shad already knew that the local Humane Society had times during the day where we could bring her down.  Besides the pee, I think the deciding factor was that our bedroom in the new house was on the second floor.  Laney always slept in our room, her entire life.  That poor dog hadn’t walked up the stairs in at least 6 months.  We just couldn’t stand the thought of her sitting at the bottom of the stairs, not being able to come up to sleep.  She would have been so sad.  All she has ever wanted was to be with Shad and I.  So, that Friday, with everything else going on, we drove her down, signed some papers and left her in the capable hands of the staff.  No, we didn’t stay and “hold her hand” as they gave her the lethal injection.  It was just too hard to stay.  We loved that fat dog so much.

Anyway, we spent the afternoon and evening distracting ourselves by moving our first load over the new house.  Shad’s dad came over and helped move the big stuff in.  The kids were so excited to spend the night in our new house.  I guess you could say Shad and I were too.  We kept the kids up way too late unpacking and then we got up the next morning and did it all over again.  We spent Sunday getting the last of our junk out of the garage and cleaning the rental and then, we were officially moved out of that house and into our new house!  Yay!

Since then it has been a CRAZY whirlwind of unpacking, organizing, purchasing things to organize with, putting furniture together, and trying desperately to keep up with my husband’s unpacking/organizing stamina (and failing miserably by being tired and grouchy).  So that’s the last two weeks in a nutshell.  Oh, I almost forgot, Michelle’s surgery went well.  She has been home for about a week and is just starting to feel a little like herself again.  I know her and Greg would appreciate your continued prayers as she heals and continues in her treatment process, which is yet to be determined.
