Two Stories

IMG_9535

It is pretty exciting to drive down the main street that runs behind our house and be able to see it towering above the fence line.  The kids and I drove by on Tuesday night just to see how things were going and we were all excited to see that the second story is up.  Josh and Hannah have been begging since then to be able to walk through the house and Sunday we were finally able to do it.

This is looking out the front door.  I love that it will have those narrow windows around it.

This is the hallway that goes from the front of the house to the back where the kitchen, dining room and family room are.  Can you tell it was cooooold out?

This is looking to the front from the dining room.  To left is the living room and the stairs will be all the way to the right just inside the front door.  The kids are dying for the stairs to go in.  (I kind of am too.)

This will be the back sliding glass door, just off the dining room.  I am still very excited about how the back retaining wall turned out.

Here you can see how the retaining wall comes right up to the back of the house.  They used this side of the house as a retaining wall up the side and to the front.  Shad and I are planning a nice sitting area up in that corner.

By this time, Josh had had enough of the 32 degree cold, so he was back in the car.  But the girls were too excited to leave their new house.  If you imagine really hard there will be an adorable, covered front porch right here.  Also you can see how they used the side of the house as a retaining wall at the left hand corner of the house.

This week we are going to finalize all the flooring in the house (laminate in the entry way, kitchen and dining room, carpet for the living room, family room and upstairs, and vinyl for the 2 1/2 bathrooms and laundry room), the appliances for the kitchen (we’re going with black), all the counter tops (granite in the kitchen and formica in the bathrooms) and, the hardest choice for me, the exterior house colors.

It has been so much fun to watch the house go up, but I think the best part has been having the kids here to experience the excitement with us.  I am sure that they will look back very fondly on watching their house being built from the ground up.
