It has become a tradition, now, to drive a mile down the road to check out the progress of the house. I’m not saying that I don’t cruise by during the week, too, but on the weekends we can actually walk around in the house. The other day I was driving by on the road that runs behind our house and I noticed that it looked different, so I pulled into the neighborhood to get a closer look. I don’t like to be intrusive, so I just park close enough to the house that I can snap a picture or two from the car. On this day there was a truck parked in the space that will be the driveway. I had to get a picture with my phone of the new front porch. It wasn’t until I was just about to drive off that I notice the two guys sitting in the truck eating lunch and staring at the annoying lady in the minivan snapping pictures of them. I sped away and then proceeded to upload their picture on Facebook. I just don’t like to be intrusive.
Hi Guys! Great work on the house!
Anyway, here are some new updates to the house:
First and foremost, we have stairs! We were pleased to be able to explore the top floor.
See that area below the window but above the front door? Let’s just say that if you are offended by giant, dead elk heads, you better not come to my house.
This is the view of the master bedroom from the walk-in closet. Yes, I did say WALK-IN CLOSET! It even has a window in it. (I didn’t take a picture.)
Master bath tub.
In the master bath, there will be a shower and a tub. As most of you know I have a strange phobia of stewing in my own filth in a bathtub. Don’t even get me started on having to touch the sides of the bath tub…EW! Needless to say, I will not be using my tub. But we decided to keep it in the plan for future resale value.
The hallway upstairs.
This will be the kids’ bathroom. The tub and toilet are separated by a door from the two sinked vanity. That will be nice when Hannah gets big enough to spend a lot of time at the mirror and Josh needs to shower or go to the bathroom.
I think this will be Hannah’s room and Bethany’s will be to the right. They look out over the front of the house. The master bedroom and Josh’s room are in the back of the house.
Back downstairs, here is the fireplace in the family room. I love the big window, too.
Looking out the family room window this is a view of the covered back patio. We are very excited about that! You are all invited for a BBQ this summer! I am still loving the retaining wall! I can’t wait to plant little ground cover plants in the rocks.
And here’s the front of the house with the cover on the front porch. I noticed that we will be able to sit on the porch and watch the sun set. The more I walk through the house, the more thankful I am that God provided us with the means to have this house built. What a gift!
Shad and I also went to the flooring store this week and finalized all the flooring and counter tops for the entire house. That was a lot of fun.
Here is a small sample from left to right: kitchen cabinets, granite countertop for the kitchen, laminate flooring for the entry way, kitchen and dining room, and below that, the carpeting for the family room, living room and upstairs. I am so excited to see it all come together.
This week we are going to finalize the appliances for the kitchen and the lighting for the whole house. We are going to walk through the house next to ours, that was just finished, and check out the sinks/faucets and the closet shelves/doors. And soon, very soon, I really, really hope, very soon, I will be able to decide on an exterior color. I don’t know why it is so hard to commit, but I can’t go with anything! I am almost to the point where I want to tell Shad to pick and I’ll just be surprised. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them because staring at this thing is not helping:
And now I have a headache.
