First Goal Accomplished

As you know from this post, I made a list of goals to achieve over the coming year.  One of them was to start attending the women's bible study at our new church.  Well, I went on Thursday morning.  I was all pumped to put myself out there and meet some young(ish) moms, just like me.  When I walked into the church I started scanning the room looking for girls like me.  What I mostly saw was a bunch of old mature women walking in.  By the time the lady leading the study started talking, I could only see a few younger ladies that looked like they were in the same season of life as me, but the majority of women in the room appeared to be in their fifties and up.

When it was time to break into our small prayer groups the lady that was leading said that if you were new to talk to her and she would find the right group for you.  I was relieved that I wouldn't have to wander around hoping that someone would notice that I looked new and invite me to join them.  As I walked down the aisle toward the leader lady, I was already imagining McDonald's playgroups and the wonderful forever mommy friends I was about to meet (just like back home).  She was very excited to see a new face and exclaimed, "I know just the group for you!  Follow me!"

I followed her down a little hallway to a room behind the chapel stage.  She opened the door and all I could see were a bunch of white/gray haired ladies.  Now, please know that I have nothing against little old ladies.  I learned to appreciate and love visiting with older folks after working with them at nursing homes and the hospital I worked at.  In the medical profession you get to spend a lot of time with baby boomers.  It's just that in my mind I was picturing a room full of young(ish) moms, like at my old church.  Funny, I think God may have something different in mind for me.  And I knew I must be in the right group because I asked Him to put me in the right group when I was in the bathroom a few minutes before entering the little room behind the chapel stage.

Yes, I accomplished my first goal of the new year.  I started going to the women's bible study.  Now to work on another goal.  The one where I said I wanted to be open to the new people and friends that God was going to put in my life.  Honestly I didn't expect Him to put a room full of little old ladies in my life, but I am going to roll with it and see what happens.  Who knows, I may learn a thing or two from these gals.
