Well, in the past I would have found it strange, uncomfortable. I never would have initiated it. I would be too worried about making her uncomfortable, being too forward. Besides, I'm sure she has better things to do anyway. Funny thing is, those thoughts didn't attack me this time. It felt natural. So I asked. I asked the complete stranger that I was talking to at the park last night if she would like to meet up today at the Kid's Club. She said yes.
And she showed up. We talked for 3 hours about this and that. It felt good to meet someone new that had just moved here too. Before we parted ways I told her I have never just invited a complete stranger to do something and she said she hadn't either. Will we be best friends forever? I don't know. What I do know is, I did it. I went out on a limb, put myself out there.
I have a two friends that when I met them seemed like they had been friends for a very long time. Turns out they had met standing in line to get a pizza and one invited the other to our mom's group. They had only just met. When we got up here to the new town I was half expecting a complete stranger to introduce herself to me and invite me to do something. Then I realized maybe I need to be the one doing the introducing and inviting. It works. People do respond when you reach out. Wow, who knew?
