Week One: A Success!

We have successfully made it through the first week of school. The kids are handling the early mornings and early-to-beds fairly well. Hannah is pretty grumpy as soon as her bottom hits her booster in the car after school, but is better after she has had her lunch, but starts to melt again right about nap time. I am trying to balance a not-too-grumpy girl by allowing her to nap, but not sleep too long because she stays awake so late at night, like 10 PM.

When I drop Josh off, he pretty much gives me a quick glance over his shoulder and then he's gone. I might get a goodbye. He loves PE and library time. He checked out his first book, ever. It was a Zoobook about deer. Go figure. He has already made friends with the other Josh in his class and has his old friend, Abby, from preschool in his class also. They were pretty good buddies last year and are slowly getting reunited. Josh was sad at first when he realized all of his other preschool buddies are in the full-day kindergarten class. But he is discovering that they get to have PE and recess together, which he excitedly tells me about each day. He is becoming quite the big kid!

Hannah is doing well, but is definitely not as confident as Josh is about school. She prefers that I come into class with her and linger for a few minutes before I leave. Thankfully, she doesn't wrap her body around me and scream when I leave, like she has done at church on a few occasions. Thankfully! On her first day we walked in and she looked at me and said, "Where are the girls, Mom?" There are 6 boys and 3 girls in her class and the one girl she bonded with at Open House was sick on the first day. Today we brought home the kids' Friday Folders and looked through them at lunch time. Hannah was practically glowing with pride as I went through her artwork and work sheets. So adorable! Her first school work and she was so proud! I let her hang every one of them on the fridge.

Here they are ready for their first day!

I think next week will be easier, but I am getting a routine for myself during the 3 short hours the kids are at school. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be my gym time. I walked 2 miles today and Wednesday and it felt so good! Monday I am going to give Group Power a go. The plan is to do that until my belly gets too big to bend over or lift the bar past it's girth. Starting next week I will help out in Josh's class with craft time on Tuesdays. I am looking forward to getting to know Josh's teacher and the other kids in his class. I am waiting to hear from Hannah's teacher to see where I can help in her class. And in 2 more weeks, 2 MORE WEEKS, Mom 2 Mom starts back up at church on Thursdays. I.CANNOT.WAIT! My weekly dose of sanity. It can't start soon enough. I love the fellowship, the food, the bible study, and all the wonderful girls there! Anyway, it looks like my week is going to be pretty full, for about 5 or 6 months. Then my whole world gets turned upside down in the best way possible.

Speaking of this baby growing inside me... In just one more month I will be having an ultrasound. THE ultrasound. I have gone from not being sure if I wanted to know the babies sex when I was pregnant with Josh, to knowing we would find out with Hannah, to feeling so impatient I almost can't stand it with this one. I was just at the store today torturing myself by looking at newborn and preemie sized outfits. I want to buy tiny baby clothes, SO BAD! Boy or girl, it doesn't matter. I just want to know so I know what to get. (I have told Shad all of this and he got this fear in his eye. I think he sees the bank account running like a faucet. I don't know why...) We didn't keep any of Josh or Hannah's baby clothes, so I get to start all over again. I don't know if I have ever mentioned it here, but I LOVE TO SHOP AND BUY NEW THINGS! So, one month is all I have left to wait. Oh this kid better hold still and spread it's legs for the ultrasound tech!

So that's my week in a nutshell. I am so happy for a routine again. Getting up at 6:45, not so much. But if that is the price I have to pay for a routine, well, it's all worth it. Here's to a great school year!
