Labor Day weekend has come and gone. Here in the desert the weather was warm and perfectly sunny with the occasional puffy white cloud drifting over. And the weekend was just the same. The Clausens came over and spent it with us. They came over on Thursday to catch the BSU vs. UO game. And I think you all know how that turned out...
Friday we met them at our favorite place...Roaring Springs! Oh what a blast that was. Troy and Malissa were so nice to help with our kids, actually so did their kids, Jordan and Aaron. Shad and I were able to go on all the "big person" slides we wanted. I felt like we were on a high school date. He teased me, I slapped him playfully. It was great!
Saturday we had a BBQ with the Clausens and our desert friends, the Stevens. I was minding my own business when it happened. Jordan and Aaron brought it in and offered it to me. At first I was hesitant. I had heard about it and knew everyone seemed to be doing it. Shad did it first and looked like he liked it. So I hesitantly decided to give it a try. It was tricky at first getting the technique down. But after a few tries I seemed to have it. I started out slowly and the next thing I knew I was hooked!
"Just one more," I kept saying. I couldn't stop! Jordan and Aaron were no help as they kept taking turns doing it with me. Troy even jumped in once or twice. He introduced me to the really hard stuff. I could hardly keep up with him! Jordan was like a maniac, she had obviously done this many times before.
I was finally able to stop long enough to go out to dinner at Cheesecake Factory, which was worth it! (Besides the gut rot from eating too much, but that is a whole other story that NO ONE wants to hear.) But when we got back home there it was sitting on the table. I had to have more and Aaron was happy to join me. I was finally able to tear myself away at 12:30 AM to go to bed.
After church we got home and it was still just sitting there. I tried to resist as I knew the Clausens were trying to pack up to go home. "Just a few more, I swear." On and on it went. I couldn't stop! I was getting good, it felt good! They just kept packing and I knew I would have to stop. "Just one more, really!" Aaron and I did one more and then I did it. I set it down and walked away. I knew if I didn't I would never be able to stop. It didn't help that Troy and Malissa kept egging me on. It was like they wanted me to keep going. Maybe it was to make them feel better about their own disability to walk away from it, I don't know.
Finally it was time for them to go and I knew they had to take it with them. So I reluctantly said goodbye to them and to it. Maybe another time. And so I ask...am I really a hero? A Guitar Hero?
