After a couple weeks of warm rain, the sun came out and summer began! The common saying around here is that summer starts on July 5th and ends the Friday of Labor Day weekend. So by those accounts, we are having an early summer.
We were invited by our former neighbor (and friend) to hang by the neighborhood pool. It was crowded because it was a hot day. I think we topped out at about 95 degrees. Come to think of it, it’s been about that hot for 3 straight days. (That’s a hot streak in our neck of the woods.)
I brought a floatie for Bethany to use. On the way to the pool I forewarned Josh and Hannah that Bethany had first dibs and if she wasn’t using it, then it would be MOM that would determine who’s turn it would be next and for how long. I find with my kids pre-explaining the rules works a lot better than going through them when we are having a dispute about something.
The pool water was not very warm, so the girls had to get out and bask in the sun to stop the shivering. Hannah and Piper, they are good buddies. They get along very well, but sometimes fight like sisters. I actually appreciate that they disagree sometimes, makes for good conflict resolution skills. Not mention, it usually about who gets to wear which dress up dress or what game to play next.
Yesterday, Hannah was chomping at the bit to get to the mall. We were meeting Piper, her brother and her mom to do some shopping. Hannah could not wait and that was all she talked about all morning long. We ended up in a store where the girls went into the same dressing room to try on clothes and ended up getting matching hot pink halter tops. It totally reminded me of my junior high school days when my mom would drop my friend and I off at the mall to just hang out. I’m going to blink and Hannah will be asking me to drop her and Piper off at the mall.
Bethany always wants to do what her big sis is doing.
I thought it was cute that she wanted to sit on the girls’ backs until I realized…
she was totally scamming their Caprisuns. Little turkey.
Found this big guy swimming in the pool. The girls screamed and Josh jumped right in to catch it.
I was looking forward to a relaxing day by the pool. I don’t know what I was thinking. Somehow in my anticipation I forgot that I was taking my busy 2 year old to sit next to a large body of water. Needless to say after about 2 hours of jumping up every few minutes to grab her, to get her off the step (again!) into the pool, and to stop her from trying to get the beach ball about 2 feet from the side of the pool I decided it was time to pack it in. Lesson learned, get that girl a life jacket.
