It was cold and rainy, but we decided that Sunday was the day to get our tree. Our friends that stayed the night had just left, so we headed to nearest tree farm. We contemplated just going and getting a tree already cut to avoid the mud and rain, but decided that that would just not be the same.
Here are the kids all ready to tree hunt. Josh has brought his toy chain saw for the last few years.
But this year he set it aside and got down to business with Dad’s real saw.
And then Hannah got in on the action.
Bethany just stood there being cute, what she does best.
While Josh sawed,
Bethany held his chain saw.
After Hannah and Josh took a few more turns with the saw,
the tree came down!
Champions!!
Dad barely did any of the cutting.
These two were on a roll. They even helped carry the tree out.
Bethany carried the umbrella and mom got wet.
While Shad got the tree in the stand, Josh, Hannah and I cut snowflakes.
Next I put up the nativity. Shad and I both thought it was too dark, so Shad got the idea to put the white lights in the display. It came out so pretty.
We put the tree in the small family room this year because we hardly spend any time in the big living room, so all the decorations are crammed into one little room.
But I love that we can enjoy all the Christmas cheer, instead of it sitting in a different room than us.
The Christmas goose watches over the room. Funny story about the goose. It was a white elephant gift at our annual motorcycle club party several years back. The gifts can get pretty racy and the fights for the good gifts can get pretty cut throat. Someone else opened the goose and I traded an unopened gift for it fair and square, so it was mine. When we were preparing to go home that night, the goose was missing. Someone stole it and hid it. I almost didn’t get my Christmas goose home. But we found her and got her home where she belongs. I have really grown to love my goose. And so she stands up high somewhere in the room at Christmas time and watches over the tree to make sure no one peaks at gifts.
And there’s our tree all smelling delicious and twinkly.
I love this family!
