What's Happening

It's been very busy around my house since my last post.  Today I am feeling a little overwhelmed and frustrated by, well, just life.  I think making a list of what's been going on would be easiest for me right now, since Bethany is all over the place and Josh is upstairs sleeping off a fever.

-Friday our friend, Karen, came to stay the night.  I went with her to the hospital to visit her husband, Larry, who had a large brain tumor removed last Tuesday.  You can read about that here, if you need to catch up.  Physically, Larry looked great.  He was up and around, walking without difficulty, eating on his own, his speech was clear, he did, however, say that he couldn't smell.  They were expecting this.  Mentally, Larry was very edgy, grumpy, sarcastic, honery and wanted us to take him home.  He had been impulsive, so he had a CNA with him at all times to keep him safe.  While Larry is normally sarcastic, honery and a little grumpy, it was all enhanced by his confusion.  It was hard for Karen to see him like that and her presence seemed to rile him up, so we didn't stay very long.  It was very nice to spend the evening and the next morning with Karen.

-Saturday Shad and Josh went shooting, so Hannah, Bethany and I hung out at my sister's.  I also got the CAbi order from my party a couple weeks ago.  I am very excited for my next WIWW post with all my new CAbi clothes.  I don't think it will be until next week, though.

-Sunday we went to church, which is always great.  Then, Hannah and I got our hair cut.  My hair was a mess, it needed it so badly.  I told Hannah I didn't care how she cut her hair as long as they didn't cut bangs (too much work).  She had them cut her hair pretty short.  You can see her neck in the back.  I would post a picture, but since we got home from the salon, she has realized how short her hair is and does not like it.  Therefore, I have not been aloud to take any pictures of it.  I think it's super cute.

-Sunday afternoon, Josh was riding a bike we bought from one of Shad's co-workers.  It's larger than his current bike and has hand brakes instead of pedal brakes and it has 7 gears.  Needless to say he kept going too fast on it and had a hard time remembering how to use the brakes.  He hammered a small tree with his front tire as he was flying down a hill.  It actually sounds worse that it was.  He got a scraped elbow, knocked the wind out of him and hurt his pride/confidence a little.  But he did get back up on it.  He just agreed to not go any higher than second gear.

-Sunday night we went out to dinner.  This was where Hannah realized she would have to go to school the next day with her new haircut.  She proceeded to cry and tell me her friends were not going to like her haircut.  Where do girls get this?  Seriously, she's 5!

-Monday, after Josh got off to school, I took the girls and met Shad at the dentist.  Him and I finally got ourselves a dentist.  He sat in the waiting room with the girls while I had my teeth examined and x-rayed.  Then I drove Hannah to school to walk with her into class for the big new hair reveal.  I need to mention here that she had her hair pulled back into two tiny pony tails.  There wasn't much to reveal.  As we were driving to school, I received a call from the school nurse.  Josh was in her office looking puny with a fever, could I please come get him.  I walked in to find my sad little gut laying on her exam table in his big parka with a blanket over him.  His cheeks were rosy and he had dark circles under his eyes.  Poor guy.  Hannah made it to class where she bravely told her friends that she got her hair cut short.  It was not horrible, like she thought.

-I'm gearing up to head to a conference for the PTA this weekend.  I really need to go to Target and get a few things, but my errand time has been deleted because I have a sick boy at home today.  Poor guy.  I thought about dragging him to the store, but he's pretty pathetic still.  I am hoping that Shad will be home tonight, so I can make my Target run.  Since I leave on Thursday, he will be home with the kids most of Thursday and all of Friday.  So he is working extra hours now to make up for the days he will gone.  He was home at about 3 AM last night, uh, this morning.  Then he left again at like 7.  It's any body's guess when he will be home today.

-I got a text last night from a good friend.  She has thyroid cancer.  Seriously.  This comes less than a month after losing her mom to cancer.  I can't seem to get away from this stuff and neither can she.

-There is news all over FB land that the son of a family we knew briefly when we lived in the dessert accidentally shot himself in the neck with a .22.  He was life flighted to a big city where they did surgery on his neck, but they are checking his brain activity and apparently, his brain stem was damaged.

-I'm almost sick to my stomach just thinking about all the terrible health issues that have been coming up with me and my close friends.  I am starting to wonder if it is ever going to end.  Prayer!

-Last night Bethany finally decided she could walk!  And by walk, I mean walk.  She didn't just take a couple steps, she walked from the family room in to my bedroom, then all the way around the kitchen into the living room.  The girl has been holding out on us.  It's pretty darn cute.

-Today I start 21 days of praying for my son.  My friend, Jen, introduced me to the challenge and I knew that it was something I needed to do for my Josh.  It's a battle to raise strong, biblically manly men in this world and the best weapon we have in raising them up is prayer.  I am so excited to do this for my Joshua.  Maybe you could join me.

-Finally, I will end a super positive note.  This Saturday, I am taking a break form the excitement of the PTA convention (sarcasm) to help put on a celebration for my friend, Jen, over at Brazenlilly.  In just 30 days she gets on a plane with her husband to fly to Bangkok where they will meet their son, Asher, for the first time!  And 12 days later, they will bring him home.  I am so excited for Jen, Trent, Carson and Sydney!  God has been so faithful through this journey and is an honor to have been a teeny tiny part of it.

Well, I am off to put a grouchy, busy girl down for her nap.
