Weekend In Review

I knew it was going to be a busy weekend. We had something planned every day. It started on Friday when I picked up my brother's kids, Jeremy (15) and Olivia (12) around noon. We had lunch, went to the park, then sat around the house waiting for Shad to get home so we could head to the concert. It was a blast. It was outdoors and featured Superchick, Newsboys and Skillet. Jeremy has just discovered how cool Christian music is and loves Skillet, so I wanted to be sure and get him to the concert. I loved the music, watching Hannah dance and watching Josh throw his fist in the air after each rockin' song.

Since we got home so late (12:30 am), it was very difficult to get up at 6:30 the next morning, but we managed. We are in a dirt bike club that maintains a trail system about an hour outside of town. I haven't actually been up there to help for a very long time due to kids and all, so I wanted to take the kids and spend the day with Shad. The kids were excited to ride on the quads and play in the woods. We got there about 9 am and by 10 am this is what my foot looked like...

Notice the pudgy toes, ace wrap and crutches (I spared you the outside of my ankle, it's huge and very purple). Yes, I stepped, intentionally, down into a deep rut, full force on my right foot and the whole thing turned sideways. This turning of my ankle caused several lovely popping sensations to the outer aspect of my ankle which caused me to lie in the dirt writhing in pain and crying. I also almost puked. Then, as the fight or flight reaction continued, I also almost passed out and had to lie in the middle of the trail in the fetal position. My poor kids got to witness the entire thing and all Josh could do was try to tell me funny jokes to make me smile. He did NOT like watching his mommy in pain. So after a long ride on the back of a quad and a trip to urgent care, it appears that there are no broken bones and I have a second degree sprain. Which means I tore a bunch of ligaments in my ankle. I have been told to keep it elevated, iced and stay off of it for 1 to 2 weeks. That being said, we continued with our weekend plans and went with family to the mini train park on Sunday, after going to church (and explaining to everyone I saw "what happened?!"), and then we went to pizza. I am a very compliant patient, I know.
Here I am trying to get out of the heat on the only bench that resides in the shade.

So after taking the kids to tumbling this morning (yes, I drove with a bad right ankle, won't do it again for a few days) and Subway, then yelling at both of them in that scary, ugly, out of patience mom voice, this is where I will reside for the next couple of days. Don't cry for me, Argentina, I shall be OK.

On a side note: I received a very humbling message on my phone today, so much so that I haven't had the courage to call her back yet. It was a good friend from our bible study who will just happen to be in my area tomorrow afternoon, and just happens to be a house keeper, and she wants to know if she can come over and do some house work for me. I get tears in my eyes just writing about it. Humbling...

And I would also like to say thank you to my husband who has been a saint and my kids who are helping as much as their selfish little selves can.
