A Week at Home

The kids and I just returned from spending a week at home. We stayed with my parents this time. We really went over to meet with our house painter and observe/supervise the beginnings of the painting. While we were able to meet with the painter I was disappointed that he was not going to actually get the paint and get started until next week. While it was not necessary for me to be there while he painted, I was anxious to see him get started and see the paint colors in real life. I do trust that he knows what he is doing and that he will do a good job. I'll just have to be surprised, I guess. Yet one more mystery on the adventure that is the life of Shad and Becky. You know, like, where is Shad's next job going to be, like, will it be out of town again? Nothing huge just the mystery of where we may end up living in the near future. So we press on and just go with the original plan to go back home and live and wait.

Anyway, while I was home I realized how much I miss Shad as my husband/friend but also as my parenting partner! Grandparents are helpful, but it's just not the same. (No offense.) So while it was an extremely BUSY week, it also made for an extremely tiring week. We filled every hour of each day with visits with friends and family. It is always great to hang with the girls, eat waaaaay too much and make fun of people that aren't filled with the same nurse wisdom that we are filled with, BBQ with my fam, park it out with Shad's fam, celebrate Hannah's birthday three times, go to play dates, hold tiny new babies, see friends I haven't in almost 2 years, not watch TV the entire week and drive 7 hours both ways, just me and the kids (not really!). And the bummer was that I didn't get to see any of my church peeps and I am so sorry for that. I simply ran out of time and since we got to see all of you on our last visit...well, ya.

One exciting thing I got to do with Josh was take him to see the school he's going to go to. He was mostly just interested in seeing the play ground and basketball hoop. But what do you expect from a kid. Who wants to see the classroom? Boring. Joshy going to school...yikes! My boy is really growing up. Bittersweet.

Now I did mention that Miss Hannah had 3 birthday parties, right? Yes, she has a rough life, I know. Her actual birthday is on the 10th and we will do a small family thing here for that. I think I am partied out and Shad is always happy to do small parties, so that is what we decided. That girl came home with so much stuff! Toys, toys, toys and tons of clothes and jammies! I will do more about Hannah turning 3 on Monday, so stay tuned. You just won't want to miss it!

Just a side note. We headed down to the pond park by our house today to have some quality time with Shad after not seeing him for so long. We only got to enjoy the park for about 10 minutes. Poor Laney got hooked by Josh as he was casting his pole into the pond. He got her on the inside of her back leg. She didn't even seem to notice. Did I mention that Shad doesn't debarb Josh's hooks because he can't fight the fish very well and they always fall off? Shad tried to get it out, but was unsuccessful. So we packed it up and headed back to the house. I got to hold Laney down while Shad tried to push the hook through the rest of the way to bend down the barb, but it was too hard. So he said move away from her mouth so she won't bite you and he just gave it a good yank! Well, I didn't get bit and she didn't even act like it hurt. Crazy mutt! She seems to be recovering well and won't need hospitalization at this point. Anyway, that was the excitement of the day. Well, that and Taco Bell for lunch.
