I knew Debbie was ready to escape reality when she showed up in the Portland airport in a tank top, shorts and flip flops. Her brain was already in Vegas where it was 90 degrees, not in Portland where it was maybe 70 degrees and gray. She actually had to get a sweater out of her suitcase before she checked it. Gotta love that girl!
It was a weekend of pool side sitting, 7 straight hours of shopping, missing lunch cuz we were having too much fun, getting sunburned, sitting in bed and watching TV, great food, getting oogled at many times, seeing a real life prostitute (her purse had about 1000 condoms in it, what else would she be, on her honeymoon? Not by the way she greeted the guys in the elevator..."Hello, Gentlemen..."), calling the guys to check on how they were surviving being home alone on Father's Day weekend with the rug rats, sleeping in, relaxing and just plain having a good time. And the best part of any vacation is always that first night at home in your own bed, with your husband snuggled up beside you. Aaaahhhh, familiarity! (Not to mention not having to listen to the neighbors at 3 am or the gurgling coming from the drains in the bathroom at 3 am.)
Shad and the kids were all in one piece when I got home, a little dirty, but alive and well. And on the table was a hot, home made dinner made by Shad. What a guy! (BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, in case you were wondering what he made.) After the kids were in bed, I think we both realized how tired we were. Like two people in a trance on the couch watching some National Geographic show about Iran...I think.
I am so thankful that I have a husband that is not afraid to spend an entire weekend with the kids so I can go enjoy some time away. He actually had to encourage me to go a couple of times. And I am also thankful that Debbie needed a weekend away cuz I got to be her partner in crime. Thanks again, Jeff and Debbie for the trip! And mostly thanks that I am the friend you guys come to when Debbie needs to relax! What a compliment.
